1. The Material Math Is Fundamentally Different

Solid gold jewelry is priced primarily by bullion content: a 14K or 18K piece contains 58% to 75% pure gold by weight, and every gram is charged at the global gold market price, which keeps climbing.

Gold plated jewelry works on a different model: a base metal — commonly brass — carries only a micro-thin layer of gold applied by electroplating. Measured in microns rather than grams, the gold cost per piece drops dramatically while the surface keeps the rich gold look.

At Hengdian (HD) Jewelry, our own standard applies 18K gold plating over a brass base at 0.1 to 0.3 micron; custom plating thickness is available on request.

2. Manufacturing at Scale Keeps Unit Cost Low

Solid gold fabrication is slow and labor-intensive, with mistakes expensive to scrap. Plated jewelry is far more efficient: brass components are shaped and polished in high volume first, then plated in uniform batches.

3. A Lower Price Should Not Mean Lower Standards
