Short answer: the piece is not solid gold, but the gold you see is genuine 18K gold. At Hengdian (HD) Jewelry we plate a real 18K gold layer, 0.1-0.3 micron thick, over a polished brass core. The surface is authentic 18K gold; the body beneath is brass.
What "18K Gold Plated" Means
It describes a brass base finished with a thin coat of real gold. The "18K" means the plating is 18 karat gold, about 75% pure, with the same warm tone as fine gold.
How Thick Is the Gold Layer?
Our 18K plating sits at 0.1-0.3 micron, applied through a controlled 14-step process at our own Shanwei, Guangdong factory. A thicker, even layer gives the jewelry its rich tone and everyday wear resistance, staying bright far longer than flash plating.
